Heat Exchanger / Boiler Tube Inspection
NDT Global Services provide boiler inspection solutions for all types of boilers to detect defects like corrosion, pitting and erosion.

T-Scan Probe Inspection:
T-scan is a guided wave testing transducer system which is deployed on the inner surface of tubes. The T-Scan transducers are compatible with Wavemaker instruments through our specialised TubePro software. Key applications include the inspection of:
- Air Cooler tubes
- Boiler tubes
Typically, the tubes do not need to be cleaned as well as for other inspection methods.
Non-invasive inspection the claw transducer is able of inspecting boiler, heater, or furnace tubes from the outside. The claw is capable of being fitted between closely spaced tubes where conventional rings cannot be mounted. One hundred percent coverage can be obtained, including areas that are difficult to inspect using other methods (for example penetrations and concealed bends). The inspection can normally be performed even if the tubes are still full of the catalyst and little preparation of the tube/line is required.
GWT Ring Inspection:
It is a non-invasive inspection technique permitting for the inspection of the tube whilst it remains operational.
The test can range up to 50m in either direction from the test location, up to 100m of line can be inspected in one test. Pipe sizes from 3/4” (1.9cm) to 84” (213cm) can be tested using the GWT method.
Typically, little preparation of the tube/line is required.
IRIS Inspection (Internal Rotary Inspection System)
NDT Global Services perform ultrasonic systems measuring via IRIS inspection. The system measures the remaining wall thickness along the full length and circumference of the tubes. Capabilities of this inspection method include; inspection of ferrous and non-ferrous tubes from 12.5mm (5”) to 75mm (30”) internal diameter, 100% coverage of tube circumference, can detect and locate internal and external defects.
Pipes must be cleaned prior to inspection.
Eddy Current Inspection (EC)
NDT Global Services undertake Eddy Current Tube inspection to detect defects such as; corrosion, pitting, erosion for various metallic materials.
This non-destructive testing method utilises electromagnetic induction to detect discontinuities in conductive materials.
Little preparation of the line/tube is required, detection of extremely small cracks is possible, coating thickness can be measured.
Remote Visual Inspection
Visual inspection systems can be utilised for a range of inspection scopes however, they are highly suited to the inspection of boiler inspection and heat exchangers, due to the intricacy and size of the tube being inspected.
Compact portable service camera systems may be used to fully inspect the internal circumference of tubes/ pipes. NDT Global Services inspection engineers are trained to operate a large selection of Wöhler service cameras ranging from 26mm to 200mm service heads. High resolution camera heads are facilitated by telescopic rods, flexible operation with the system being capable of transmitting live images. The service camera system can be used in wet or dry conditions.
